Job Description

As a Geotechnical Laboratory Technicianyou will test and analyze soil, rock, asphalt and other earth materials to determine their physical and engineering properties, prepare samples, conduct laboratory tests, record data, and compile reports.The role is crucial for supporting construction and engineering projects by providing essential data on subsurface conditions.Key Responsibilities:Sample Collection and Preparation:Collecting and preparing soil, rock, and other material samples for laboratory testing according to established procedures.Laboratory Testing:Conducting various geotechnical tests such as grain size analysis, Atterberg limits, compaction tests, permeability tests,asphalt testing etc.Data Collection and Analysis:Recording, analyzing, and interpreting test results, and preparing detailed lab reports.Equipment Maintenance:Calibrating, maintaining, and operating geotechnical laboratory equipment according to industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).Quality Control:Ensuring the accuracy and quality of laboratory and field test results.Reporting:Preparing clear and concise reports summarizing test results and findings.Safety Compliance:Ensuring safe laboratory practices and maintaining a safe working environment.Other Duties:Performing other tasks as assigned, including administrative duties and assisting with field activities.Qualifications:Education:A high school diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement, a bachelor's degree in geology, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.Experience:Previous experience in a geotechnical laboratory setting is required.Skills:Proficiency in geotechnical laboratory testing procedures.Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics.Strong technical writing and communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Familiarity with relevant geotechnical software and equipment.Ability to maintain and calibrate equipment.Understanding of relevant safety procedures and regulations.Attention to detail and accuracy.
