Reporting to: VP, WellsWork EnvironmentThe Wells Superintendent will be based at AED Globals North African operations, with a significant amount of time spent in the field overseeing active drilling and production operations. The role follows AEDs rotational schedule initially 6 weeks in-country and 4 weeks abroad with handover and travel time included in the 6 weeks on period. The position requires active supervision of field operations, contractor activities, and project planning meetings during in-country rotations, as well as continuous virtual coordination during overseas cycles.Candidates must be highly adaptable, operationally hands-on, and capable of leading complex well activities in technically and logistically challenging environments.Job PurposeThe Wells Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient execution of drilling, completion, and production activities at AEDs North African well sites. This includes direct supervision of field operations, coordination with contractors and internal departments, enforcement of HSE policies, and real-time troubleshooting to maintain operational continuity.The role demands strong leadership, technical proficiency, operational judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Wells Superintendent plays a critical role in aligning field execution with broader AED project goals, industry-accepted practices, and regional regulatory requirements.The successful candidate will be a seasoned operations leader with a deep understanding of well engineering and operational execution, a proven ability to deliver projects in mature assets, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and team development.Main Responsibilities (including but not limited to):Operational Planning and CoordinationCollaborate with the Wells Manager and engineering teams to implement well construction and production plans.Oversee daily drilling, workover, and production activities to ensure alignment with well programs and timelines.Monitor logistics and support functions to maintain readiness of personnel, equipment, and materials.Supervision and LeadershipLead and mentor drilling and production crews at the wellsite, promoting a high-performance, safety-first culture.Ensure field teams follow company procedures, permit requirements, and operational best practices.Supervise service companies and contractor performance against scope and contract terms.Safety and ComplianceEnforce strict adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and corporate HSE policies.Conduct daily safety briefings, site inspections, and hazard identification meetings.Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation when required.Resource ManagementAllocate personnel, equipment, and consumables efficiently to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with logistics teams for timely resupply.Support cost control efforts by identifying waste and improving efficiency in field operations.Troubleshooting and Problem-SolvingIdentify and resolve technical or operational challenges in real time, minimizing impact to schedule and cost.Provide field-level support for stuck pipe, loss circulation, well control, ESP performance, or production anomalies.Escalate critical issues to management with actionable recommendations.Performance MonitoringTrack wellsite KPIs including rate of penetration (ROP), non-productive time (NPT), ESP performance, and production rates.Analyze real-time data and make operational adjustments to optimize performance and mitigate risks.Participate in after-action reviews and lessons learned sessions.Communication and ReportingProvide timely operational updates to the Wells Manager and other stakeholders.Maintain accurate and detailed reports, including daily drilling reports (DDR), production logs, and equipment utilization.Interface with regulatory inspectors, incumbent counterparts, JV partners, and local authorities as required.Essential Skills and QualificationsTechnical ExpertiseDeep knowledge of rig and managing simultaneous operations, well construction, drilling operations, production systems, and artificial lift (incl. ESPs).Understanding of geological formations, wellbore stability, cementing, and completions best practices.Leadership and ManagementProven ability to manage and motivate diverse field teams under challenging field conditions.Capable of setting clear expectations, managing performance, and resolving conflicts.Problem-SolvingStrong analytical thinking and real-time decision-making abilities under operational pressure.Skilled in diagnosing and resolving downhole and surface equipment issues.CommunicationExcellent interpersonal and written communication skills for reporting, briefings, and coordination with multi-functional teams.Safety FocusStrong commitment to HSE leadership and site-level compliance.Demonstrated experience in implementing and enforcing safety plans and procedures.Industry KnowledgeFamiliarity with local regulations, API/ISO standards, and emerging technologies in well construction and artificial lift.Working knowledge of logistics, procurement, and contractor management in a remote field environment.Educational BackgroundPreferred: Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.Required: IWCF Well Control Certification (Level 4), API/ISO training, or industry-recognized technical certifications.Experience Requirements10+ years of progressive field experience in drilling and production operations.Experience with both rig-based and rigless operations, including ESP installations, completions, acid stimulation, logging interventions, simultaneous operations, and workovers.Prior experience working in North Africa, the Middle East, or other remote, challenging environments is strongly preferred.LanguagesProfessional fluency in English is required.Working knowledge of Arabic or French is highly desirable.Personal Qualities Required:High integrity and commitment to safety and operational excellence.Result-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working under minimal supervision.Culturally aware and able to build effective relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders.Practical, field-focused approach balanced with strategic thinking and long-term planning skills.
