DUTIES Reporting to Associate Vice-President Academic Quality and Excellence, the Dean of Research provides strategic leadership in the development and implementation of UCNs research office, plan and agenda. The Dean elevates UCNs national profile as a leader in northern and Indigenous research. The Dean establishes and strengthens research partnerships with other post-secondary institutions, granting agencies and industry leveraging UCNs location to create distinctive collaborations that advance shared goals. The Dean is a member of the University College of the Norths (UCN) Senior Academic Leadership and Strategic Leadership Teams. Aligning with UCNs strategic priorities, the Dean provides vision, strategic, and operational leadership to the research department and ensures that research is high quality and supported. Research projects will be directed by faculty; however, emphasis will be placed on research that contributes to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Research-based Masters Degree; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Extensive experience conducting and leading research projects Strong knowledge of research compliance, ethics, and funding agency regulations (e.g. Tri-Council, OCAP) Experience in academic leadership including managing staff, budgets, financial reporting, and grant administration. Knowledge of research ethics, intellectual property and data management policies. Ability to motivate and mentor researchers at all career stages. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners. Experience in building research capacity by supporting faculty development, fostering collaboration, and identifying funding opportunities Commitment to promoting and disseminating research findings to academic, industry, and public audiences Commitment to advancing Indigenous research and reconciliation. Professional communication and interpersonal skills Effective time management skills Excellent problem solving and decision-making skill. Commitment to life-long learning ASSETS PhD with a research focus Understanding of Indigenous and northern cultures/communities.
