About the role The Food Safety Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., FSSC, HACCP, CFIA & FDA). The Food Safety Manager will lead the implementation of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles and risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and control food safety hazards. Assist in HACCP reassessment activities including verification and validation of CCP''s, labels, and pre-requisite programs. The Food Safety Manager will develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives in food safety, ensuring the highest standards of product quality and food safety are met. This role will focus on creating a culture of food safety within the operations, conducting training for staff, and ensuring that all food safety practices meet or exceed industry standards. Key responsibilities * Responsible for the development and implementation of the Plants food safety strategy aligned with the Corporate Food Safety strategy for both products and programs by continuously identifying areas of improvement in the efficiency and productivity of the current processes. * Develop, implement, and manage food safety policies and procedures, based on global input. * Conduct regular audits and inspections of food handling and storage practices. * Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including HACCP, CFIA, FDA standards. * Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to identify and mitigate food safety risks. * Train and educate staff in food safety practices and regulations. * Investigate food safety incidents and implement corrective actions as necessary. * Coordinate corporate FSS audit and conduct regular food safety internal audits. * Regular review of EMP & Sanitation results and implement timely action for non-conforming results. * Lead cross-functional teams to improve food safety practices and culture within the organization. * Ensure CCP/OPRP validations are conducted on a regular basis and meet all requirements. * Ensure allergen validations are conducted and meet the requirements on a regular basis. * Coordinate with pest control vendors to ensure effective pest management strategies are in place. * Train staff on GMP practices, pest management protocols, and hygiene standards. * Maintain accurate records of GMP compliance and pest management activities, including inspections and corrective actions taken. * Investigate food safety incidents, including product recalls, contamination, or safety breaches. Implement corrective and preventive actions to address root causes and minimize risk. * Monitor and recognize food safety issues and follow through the Hold and Release program as it applies to raw materials and/or finished products. Perform food safety assessments as required. * Lead the implementation of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles and risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and control food safety hazards. * Provide training and guidance to team members on quality and food safety standards, procedures, and best practices. Foster a quality-driven culture throughout the organization. Ensure that all employees are well-informed and adhere to food safety policies. * Provide regular updates on food safety metrics to senior management. Additional responsibilities The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of food safety programs and tools in creating food safety culture and a key player in companys commitment to producing safe, quality food. The Food Safety Manager develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive Food Safety Management System (FSMS) to ensure compliance with Barry Callebaut Corporate standards, regulatory requirements and industry standards. Develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives in food safety, ensuring the highest standards of product quality and safety are met. Barry Callebaut Brantford produces and supply the product throughout the north America (including Canada, USA & Mexico), and the Food Safety Manager role contribute and support to the Barry Callebauts North American supply chain. About you University degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related science discipline. Proven experience (7+ years) in food safety or quality assurance roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership manager position. Knowledge of designing, implementing and managing HACCP programs in food manufacturing facilities. International HACCP alliance accredited HACCP certified. Certified Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI). SQF Practitioner and internal auditor certificate will be an additional asset. High level of computer competency and working knowledge of manufacturing data systems such as SAP, MES, Power-Bi and Salesforce. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and maintain positive business relationships with external stakeholders and customers. Effective communication skills, with the ability to lead training sessions, collaborate across teams, and interact with regulatory bodies. Proficient with office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams. Ability to run analytics and use database systems to create reports. Additional Knowledge of CFIA/FDA regulations and standards associated with food manufacturing. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. The ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to work with a variety of people and to be assertive as required. Demonstrated ability to work and influence within all levels of the organization and an effective ability to coach. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify potential risks and resolve issues proactively.
