We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to support our organization on matters relating primarily to employment and labour law, procurement processes, and general litigation. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and risk assessments, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies. The role involves reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a range of contracts, providing strategic legal support on workplace issues, managing procurement-related legal matters, and advising on commercial disputes. **Responsibilities:** - Draft, review and negotiate contracts, including employment agreements, consulting contracts, procurement documents and service contracts. - Support and advise on procurement processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies. - Collaborate with business units and provide training on legal topics as needed. - Advise on employment and labour law matters, including workplace policies, discipline, terminations, collective bargaining, grievances, and human rights. - Conduct legal research and prepare high-quality written legal opinions and correspondence. **Requirements:** - A law degree from an accredited law school. - Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. - 35 years of relevant post-call experience in Ontario, with demonstrated exposure to employment and labour law, procurement, and commercial disputes. - Strong drafting skills, including employment contracts, commercial agreements, and procurement documentation. - Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely. - Strong negotiation skills and the ability to achieve favourable outcomes while managing risk. - Sound judgment and ability to assess legal risks in the context of operational priorities. - Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. *NextStar Energy is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
