Control Solutions LTD. is seeking an Automation Technologist experienced in HVAC controls design and programming to join our Service department out of our Coquitlam office and be a key member of our long-serving team of dedicated personnel with considerable industry experience. This integral role would lead into the responsibility of designing, programming and commissioning automated HVAC control systems for commercial, industrial, and residential building projects. We proudly offer the most comprehensive product listing in the industry and are an authorized factory dealer for both the Automated Logic and Distech Controls product lines. **Skills and Qualifications:** * A post-secondary education in electrical design, such as in Automation, Instrumentation, or a related branch of electrical engineering technology. * Comprehension of HVAC mechanical systems and direct digital control systems. Experience with pneumatic controls would be an asset. * Experience with the BACnet communications protocol and integration of third-party equipment. Familiarity with building automation protocols such as Modbus, SNMP and LON would be an asset. * Experience with engineering tools and platforms including Microsoft Visio, EDS, Eikon, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, XpressNetwork Utility and EC-gfxProgram. * A working knowledge in communications and networking applications with an understanding of control theory, including PID loops and I/O configurations. * Ability to work independently or collaboratively as a team in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks to meet given schedules and deadlines. * Speak and write fluently for technical applications in the English language. Effective communication, organizational, and decision-making skills. * Use computers loaded with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office 365 and its various applications. * Possess a valid drivers license, a reliable vehicle and the ability to work from sites within the lower mainland when field engineering is needed. * Eagerness to expand your knowledge and passionate about continuous learning. **Key Responsibilities:** * Design complete BAS solutions, including controllers, sensors, relays, actuators, and network infrastructure. Develop submittal packages that include wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and point schedules to support programming, graphics, installation, and commissioning. * Read and interpret mechanical specifications, mechanical drawings, electrical drawings with the intent of designing a control system that will meet or exceed our contractual obligations and expectations of our customers. Read and interpret manufacturer specification sheets, wiring diagrams, technical instructions focused on the components included in a control system. * Create accurate control system installation drawings from scratch for new control systems or improve and expand on an existing set of installation drawings. Read, troubleshoot, and write logic-based control programs using both line code and function block programming software. * Select & confirm appropriate hardware and components based on system specifications and performance criteria. Create and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify technical or scope-related issues. * Work with installing technicians to program and commission including more complex building systems such as chiller plants and large integrations where necessary. Collaborate with the key department personnel to ensure timely issuance of as-built documents and any project-specific close out documents required by specification or contract. * Interact favorably and productively with clients and a wide range of other building contractors, consultants, and engineers. * Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department. * Adherence to safety standards, both those of Control Solutions and those of our clients.
