Job Description

Core Education & Fine Arts (CEFA) Coquitlam We are looking for a Part-Time Kitchen Helper with a passion to prepare healthy and nutritional snacks and meals for children between the ages of 1 to 5. The Kitchen Helper is responsible for menu planning, purchasing of groceries and supplies and daily preparation of nutritious meals and snacks served to the children enrolled in the school. The kitchen is to be managed and the work of the Kitchen Helper is to be conducted in strict compliance with Fraser Health Department, and all other applicable legislation. The Kitchen Helper works in consultation with the Principal/Owner to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with the other programs of the school. About CEFA CEFA Early Learning, established in 1998, is a full day early learning program designed for infants and children up to five years old. The enriched curriculum features a unique partnership of core subjects, such as reading and math; and fine arts including drama and yoga, to provide children with the freedom to learn and grow through play. Our program has a reputation of developing a childs intellect and delivering the finest start in education, arts and the humanities. The full day early learning and junior kindergarten programs at CEFA are far beyond the typical child care programs found throughout Canada. Duties & Responsibilities: Kitchen Advance planning of lunch menus and AM & PM snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide; posting of menus for parents and staff Conduct housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the kitchen in an organized, clean, safe and hygienic condition at all times Deliver and collect lunch/snack trays to/from all on-site programs Complete clean up after each meal (i.e. dishes, countertops, etc.) Meets with Health Inspector as required to ensure kitchen and practices are in compliance with Fraser Healths health code. Daily checks of kitchen equipment and supplies Ordering/Purchasing/Stocking Purchase all groceries in order to implement the planned menus, in consideration of the schools food budget and in consultation with Principal/Owner Unpacking and checking of orders Stocking food items in the pantry/refrigerator Following established procedures to forward all receipts kitchen related purchases to Principal/Owner Program Support Assist Teachers with Little Chef Program or any kitchen related items for the classroom Establish and maintain open communication with parents regarding childrens dietary restrictions, allergies, etc. Assist in administration of first aid, as required Participate in fire drills and other emergency procedures as necessary Other Attend staff/program meetings as required Participation in special events as assigned by the Principal/Owner Assists Principal/Owner in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards Qualifications High School Diploma Valid Food Safe Level 1 Experience as a cook, preferably in a child care center setting. Familiarity with planning and implementing menus around the Canada Food Guide and within Fraser Healths guidelines. Ability to work in a positive and productive manner within a team. Must be organized in the kitchen and be able to prioritize the work The ability to relate well to children, staff and parents is essential. Valid First Aid, Criminal Records check, and Drivers License Ability to list heaving items (20 50- lbs).
