In this role, you''ll combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to empower engineers, drive technical excellence, and ensure our technology delights our users. You''ll work closely with cross-functional leaders from product, design, and data teams to build products that make a meaningful impact on children''s education. As an Engineering Manager, you will be instrumental in shaping both the technical direction of our products and the growth of our engineering team. Your leadership will directly influence how we build and deliver high-quality software that supports our educational mission. Your Impact Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement. Drive the delivery of high-quality projects by managing team workflows, removing blockers, and maintaining alignment with organizational priorities. Partner with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate business priorities into actionable technical requirements. Establish and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation. Drive operational excellence through effective use of engineering metrics, retrospectives, and continuous improvement practices. Lead technical design reviews, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and cost-effective from inception. Balance the complexity of solutions with their user impact. Manage and prioritize the team''s technical backlog, balancing technical debt, feature development, and scaling work. Maintain oversight of service health and performance, ensuring alignment with Prodigy''s SLOs and delivering an excellent user experience. Create structured development plans to help team members progress in their careers. About You Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams. Strong technical background with hands-on software development experience. Deep understanding of software development practices, testing strategies, quality standards, and deployments. Excellence in project management and delivery optimization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices. Outstanding communication abilities across technical and non-technical audiences. Track record of successful cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management. Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. Bonus Points Experience leading multiple engineering teams or managing managers. History of successfully implementing department-wide technical initiatives or standards. Track record of improving engineering metrics across multiple teams (deployment frequency, MTTR, etc.). Background in successful cross-functional leadership in product-led organizations. Our Tech Stack We run on AWS with a modern cloud-native architecture using Kubernetes for container orchestration. Our backend services are primarily TypeScript and Python. Frontend development is React to a GraphQL API. Monitoring and observability are via Datadog and Sentry. We use Databricks, Airflow, and DBT for data engineering.
