The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties as well as patient registration. The clerical aspect of the role includes: patient registration, admitting, transferring and discharging in a timely manner, filing, creating and disassembling patient charts upon admission and discharge, organizing and entering physician orders into the computer, photocopying, scanning and faxing documents, ordering supplies as needed. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work within a team environment, set priorities and multi task proficiently. The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients and/or hospital personnel on the department, answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel, scheduling appointments and procedures, providing information related to patient care as authorized by a Registered Nurse. What you Bring to the role: * Previous hospital unit secretary experience * Experience in Childbirth and Children''s Services is an asset * Sound knowledge of medical terminology * Proficient computer and typing skills * Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast pace environment * Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail * Excellent organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently * Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard * Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required Work Schedule: The successful candidate must be available to work a variety of shifts; days, evenings, nights, weekends and Statutory holidays.
