Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Purchaser to manage the procurement of components, raw materials, and supplies essential for our custom switchgear manufacturing operations. This role is central to our engineer-to-order (ETO) environment and demands rigorous use of our ERP/MRP system to ensure operational efficiency and accurate inventory management. The successful candidate will be a skilled negotiator, responsible for sourcing high-quality electrical components and materials, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery to meet complex project deadlines. You will be a critical link in our supply chain, directly impacting our ability to deliver best-in-class switchgear to our clients. Key Responsibilities: Procurement Management: Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from reviewing requisitions and creating purchase orders to verifying order acknowledgements for accuracy in pricing, quantity, and delivery dates. ERP/MRP System Integrity: Maintain meticulous and accurate data within our ERP/MRP system, including purchase orders, supplier information, lead times, and pricing. Leverage the system to monitor inventory levels and drive purchasing decisions. Supplier Relations & Negotiation: Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with new and existing suppliers. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms to achieve the best value for the company. Inventory Control: Proactively monitor inventory levels to support the production schedule, reordering stock to ensure on-time delivery while maximizing inventory turns and minimizing carrying costs. Logistics & Expediting: Monitor shipments to ensure on-time arrival. Proactively expedite or de-expedite deliveries as required by production changes, tracing shipments and resolving any delivery issues that arise. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering, Project Management, and Production teams to provide accurate material costs and lead times for customer quotations, new projects, and change orders. Strategic Sourcing: Identify and recommend alternative materials or suppliers to drive cost savings, improve product quality, or reduce lead times. Administrative & Reporting: Perform day-to-day administrative tasks, including compiling reports, maintaining purchasing records, and processing paperwork in accordance with company policies. Inventory Audits: Assist in cycle counting programs and/or annual physical inventory activities as required. Required Qualifications: 3+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials management. 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated proficiency and hands-on experience with an ERP/MRP system is essential. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Legally entitled to work in Canada. Successful completion of a pre-employment background check. Preferred Qualifications (Assets): Experience in the electrical manufacturing, switchgear, or a similar Engineer-to-Order (ETO) industry is highly desirable. Professional designation (or working towards) in supply chain, such as SCMP or APICS/ASCM. Experience with cross-border (Canada/US) logistics and customs.
