The Operations Manager (OM) is a seasoned operations leader with a proven track record in managing large-scale manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the operations of Weldcos Edmonton facility, ensuring safety, efficiency, profitability, and driving the achievement of business objectives outlined in the companys 5-year strategic plan. The OM takes full ownership of the day-to-day operations, driving continuous improvement while maintaining a focus on the facilitys production schedule, and resource optimization. The OM ensures the seamless integration of quality assurance, customer service, production and capacity planning, workforce development, and cross-functional collaboration to optimize operational performance, mitigate risk, and achieve cost-effective production. This role also involves monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and align daily operations with long-term strategic goals. The role requires both strategic vision and hands-on operational oversight, leveraging innovation and best practices to maximize productivity and a safe work environment. The OM is a boots-on-the-ground leader who deeply understands Weldcos operational terrain inside and out, masters the day-to-day tactical operations, and delivers results. The OM cultivates a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, implementing best practices across all departments while ensuring a collaborative, inclusive, and safe work environment. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Operations, or designate, with regular collaboration with the Director of Operations. What Will You Do? Provide direction and oversight for the daily operations of the OMs manufacturing facility. Generate timely production data reports and core metrics (e.g., time allocation, materials used) on the progress of operations, measuring them against the specific goals outlined in the business plan. Ensure key objectives related to revenue, margin, and expenses are managed within the guidelines of approved plans and budgets. Ensure that operations meet branch, corporate, and/or legislative requirements concerning safety, environmental standards, and labor and employment regulations. Support the Quality Assurance Program, ensuring compliance with established standards for both production and engineering. Develop and implement procedures to guide processes, achieve consistently high product quality, plan capacity to meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with customers and suppliers. Contribute to the review of the product portfolio to identify low-moving or low-value products to be phased out or find opportunities to better achieve economies of scale. Collaborate extensively with other key departments that impact production, including engineering, quality, procurement, and sales. Provide agile leadership to ensure the team remains resilient, proactive, and empowered. Collaborate with the HR team on human capital planning to establish career development programs (incl. career pathing, professional development, leadership development, and mentorship), ensuring that the talent necessary to achieve organizational objectives is readily available. Contribute to the development of a branch-level strategic business plan in alignment to the corporate business plan. Ensure the facility meets its production and profitability targets, while contributing to the long-term success of the organization. In collaboration with the Director of Operations, implement Lean protocols to streamline operations and reduce inefficiencies, while addressing low-hanging fruits in the manufacturing process. Extensive knowledge of safety practices and applicable OH&S legislation. Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes. Strong supervisory and leadership skills to guide and motivate employees, optimizing productivity and fostering a positive work culture. Coaching and delegation abilities to empower employees, provide constructive feedback, and recognize achievements. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas effectively. Strong public speaking and presentation skills, engaging audiences with confidence. Ability to manage competing operations priorities, multiple projects, and operations processes simultaneously. Qualifications: Bachelors degree or diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or an applicable trade Leadership training 3+ years of experience as Operations Manager or similar leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing 5+ years of other supervisor experience 5+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in manufacturing Proven track record of leading and managing large teams in a complex, fast-paced environment Lean Green Belt (required) Lean Black Belt (preferred) Operations-related advanced degree and/or certifications (preferred) 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment or steel manufacturing, or similar industries (preferred) Bonus Round!
