As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job DescriptionPOSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:The role ensures consistent profitability of the store by implementing national and regional standards in sales, customer service, merchandising, marketing, public relations, staff training, reclamation and product donation flow, transportation, and processing of in-store donations.AccountabilitiesThe incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.Direct all operations of store to meet sales targets and control expenses while maintaining customer service standardsHire, orientate, train, evaluate, recognize, discipline, and terminate based on Territorial/National standardsManage health and safety, labour & employee relations, and other related issues at a store levelDecide on in-store promotions and auctions and keep abreast of marketing trends by checking competitors stockPlan store layout to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displaysDetermine and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on spot checks and reviews of weekly sales recordsMaintain control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriatelyEnsure in-store safety for staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)Prepare financial and other requested reports to the National and Regional offices (sales reports, staffing costs, payroll data, etc.)Work with Salvation Army agencies to delivery emergency and disaster services as assigned by District ManagerResponsible to plan, organize, direct, and control all store operationsHelp store associates make connections with the customers and demonstrate a value driven workforceRole CompetenciesResults drivenDeveloping direct reportsBuilding effective teamsManaging and measuring work/systemsMotivating othersProcess ManagementTime ManagementPerforms other work-related duties as assigned.8Critical Relationship ManagementInternal: Retail District Managers, other Retail Store Managers and store teamExternal: Guests, donors, vendors, community store partnersManagerial/Technical ResponsibilitiesReports directly to the District Manager.Direct reports: Supervises a team of Sales Associates of different level: responsible for hiring, terminating or making disciplinary decisions, directly supervise 10 or more full-time, part-time, and/or volunteers, provide direction concerning current tasks or consult in assignmentsFinancial And Material ManagementConsiderable material responsibilities.Establish and manage in-store budget within guidelinesExecute budgetary objectives by attaining sales marginsMaintain staff cost ratios, and profit objectives as establish by the regionEnsure nightly sales are deposited into the appropriate financial institutionAnalyze store financial statements and strategize appropriate action to attain financial goals and monitor the cost of goods (i.e., buying products from warehouse, tracking costs associate with product, etc.)The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.Working ConditionsThis is a permanent full time positionTypical retail selling floor environmentBack room sorting and stock warehousing with consideration for safety factorsFrequent exposure to fumes and dust and temperature fluctuationsFlexibility in personal work hours requiredFrequent amount of interpersonal conflict dealing with customers, volunteers, students and/or employeesWork is varied with periods of repetitive tasksAttention must be applied for accuracy when preparing financial documentation and staff schedulingWould need to be accessible in emergency situations as they arise.May be required to work overtime, as needed.Working outside of business hours - yes; store hours will drive the nature of this role's work: usually 9AM - 9PM, but time may vary for different stores based on the business needs.Work outdoors rarely.Education, Experience And QualificationsWillingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.Education, Qualifications And CertificationsCompletion of College Diploma in Business Retail Management or equivalent an assetBasic accounting skills requiredFirst aid training required or willing to learn in-houseWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsExperience And Knowledge3 years of progressive experience in retailThrift retail experience would be an assetFashion background would be an assetMicrosoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, Word requiredExperience working for Not for Profit/Charitable and retail experience is an assetFrench language an assetSkills And CapabilitiesCommunication, organizational, problem-solving, relationship management, negotiation skills are requiredAttention to detailsAbility to lead and develop a teamAbility to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.This Job posting is for Mill Bay Thrift Store located at 855 Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road Mill Bay, BC V0R 2P2CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $54,814.39 to $68,517.99 with a maximum of $82,221.59.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
