This role is critical to maintaining and advancing a culture of safety across flight operations throughout the Province of Ontario.As a senior leader within Ornge Global Air, the Director plays a strategic role in shaping safety policy, driving continuous improvement, and fostering collaboration across departments to ensure operational excellence. The successful candidate will be a proactive, relationship-centered leader with deep expertise in aviation safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance.Key AccountabilitiesOversee daily and periodic site auditing, operations monitoring, and the management of a Safety Management System (SMS)Lead the development and sustainment of a strong safety culture across all aviation activitiesInvestigate aviation occurrences and formulate risk management strategies and proceduresProvide expert advice and counsel to all departments regarding safe operations and aviation resource managementEvaluate the financial impact of safety-related decisions and develop strategies to address resource needsResponsibilitiesCollaborate with senior leadership to align safety strategies with organizational goalsLead the development and execution of departmental strategies and initiativesEducate and advise leadership on aviation safety strategies and regulatory obligationsPrepare and present safety-related reports and updates to the Board of Directors, Committees, and Executive Management TeamMonitor market trends and evaluate program effectiveness to ensure alignment with business needsAct as a consultative resource across Ornge for aviation safety policy, procedures, and performance criteriaDevelop and manage departmental budgetsLead and grow a high-performing team, fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvementIdentify and implement process and technology improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce non-value-added workEnsure data integrity and leverage analytics for informed decision-makingOversee performance management and development planning for managers and professionals within the teamQualificationsBachelors degree in aviation safety management or a related fieldMinimum of 10+ years of experience in aviation, with at least 5 years in a senior safety management roleExperience in a unionized environment and with both rotor and fixed-wing operationsProven expertise in developing and administering SMS systems in aviation settingsDemonstrated experience in aviation risk assessments and incident investigationsPilot experience, preferably with exposure to remote or northern operationsStrong working knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), aviation contract administration, and complianceSuperior analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsTotal RewardsComprehensive Health, Dental and Vision Benefit Plan.24/7 Employee and Family Assistance Program.Premium Defined Benefits Pension Plan Automatic Enrollment.Three Paid Personal Days (Pro-Rated for Year 1).Accrued vacation time starting at four weeks per year.PERKS!
