Position Details Job Title: Technical Specialist Hardware Application Designs Contract Duration: 12 months with a possibility of extension Location: North York, ON (105 Moatfield Drive) Hybrid 2 days per week (Thursdays 100%) Schedule: Standard Office Hours (M-F 40 hours/week) Pay Rates (Max Rate): $65.55/hour as T4 or $76.25/hour as INC Number of positions: 6 positions (4 intermediate level candidates (3-7 years of experience) & 2 senior candidates (1 of them requires French)) Interview: 2 interviews (1st interview virtual, 2nd interview in person) Position Summary To produce application designs and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering principles. Involved with complex and difficult designs. Responsibilities Technical Skills: Demonstrate a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems. Technical Skills: Good understanding of SelTrac signal plans and SelTrac Radio equipment. Technical Skills: Demonstrate an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes. Technical Skills: Interpret and write Requirements; prepare specifications for hardware and/or software components. Technical Skills: Proficient with development tools and CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD). Technical Skills: Select an appropriate design approach; maximize use of existing design. Technical Skills: Possess Thales CMS Designer or Principles license. Management Skills When required, lead a small team of designers (1 to 5 Designers). Manage assigned tasks, schedule and budget; track progress and ensure tasks proceed on schedule and within requirements. Verify that all assigned work is completed accurately and on time. Carry out all assigned work efficiently with minimal supervision. Generate accurate estimates for current departmental technology and for new technologies. Maintain familiarity with Thales Work Instructions and the QMS process; knowledge of Chorus process is an asset. Communications Skills Well-developed verbal skills to interact effectively in various forums. Well-developed writing skills to prepare clear, effective documents. Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to interact with colleagues and customers at all levels. Minimum Requirements Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree 10 12 years related work experience Computer literate with knowledge of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials, (SAP), Configuration Management, Thales (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office Good interpersonal and technical writing skills Preferred Qualifications Soft Skills Ability to work in a team environment. Mentor junior or new members of the department. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others. Aptitude Locating and researching source documentation for design activities. Making timely decisions, both independently and with others.
