Overview Designs set-ups and conducts experimental programs and accurately obtains and records data; fabricates experimental apparatus. Performs R&D assignments that are not standardized or prescribed. May modify experimental set-ups, troubleshoot, and correct equipment malfunctions as necessary, and provide oral and written status reports. Main function is to test products to the given Standards. Responsibilities Maintains good housekeeping, safety practices, and uses PPE at all times as outlined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Conducts a wide range of test procedures on equipment to applicable standards; interprets results and determines required tests, order of tests, and number of samples. Performs tests and calculations, compiles data, and summarizes results into test reports and checklists. Verifies calculations are consistent with measurements and determines pass/fail status subject to review by Certifier/Reviewer. Assembles/disassembles test samples and operates laboratory test equipment with minimal supervision. Maintains cleanup of tools, equipment, and work area. Records technical data and drafts reports. Performs calculations to summarize results and relate test results to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by Lab Manager. Notes discrepancies or product characteristics observed before or during tests and refers them to Sr. Lab Tech, Certifier or Manager. Independently analyzes complex devices to determine compliance with applicable requirements. Contributes to development and implementation of requirements for new or revised standards as required. Interacts with the Certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports and certification records. Maintains and initiates direct Certifier contact to provide information and answer questions or obtain more product information. Tests to the Certifiers requests and provides interpretation of test results and how they apply to certification status. Performs witness testing as required by Lab Tech III or Manager. Operates test equipment in a safe manner; may be required to purchase tools/equipment from outside shops. Performs other duties as assigned by manager and reviews work orders for accuracy. Conducts Technical Audits for both Safety & EEV and communicates with clients regarding project details as needed. Education And Experience 3-year Technical Certificate or equivalent education/experience in electromechanics laboratory-based technical role, or Associates degree in engineering technology. Professional membership (eg. ASTT, OACETT or equivalent). 5-8 years of related experience in electromechanics technical role. Experience in mechanical testing (e.g., vibration, stress, aging, impact). Skilled in operating computer-based testing equipment and measurement tools; manual dexterity with various tools and equipment.
