Job Description

Overview Geotechnical Engineer (Seismic Engineer) at COWI in North America. Join a global team of experts delivering engineering analysis, design, and technical reports for tunnels and underground structures, including deep shafts, cut-and-cover structures, and mined tunnels and caverns for metro transit, infrastructure, or hydroelectric projects. Responsibilities Perform engineering analysis and design of rock tunnels, caverns, and shafts in mixed ground conditions (soft/loose soils and bedrock) and various construction methods (e.g., NATM/SEM, TBM, drill and blast). Apply soil and rock mechanics to evaluate failure modes and develop ground support schemes. Classify and characterize ground conditions for tunneling methods based on geotechnical data. Prepare drawings, indicate support types and construction sequencing, and document results in technical memoranda and geotechnical design reports. Contribute to digital project delivery and information management from conception through completion. Qualifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field from an accredited university. Registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario or British Columbia. Minimum 7+ years of experience in tunnel, cavern, and underground structure design and analysis in the AEC industry. Experience with Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code, and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code. Familiarity with BIM/parametric tools (AutoCAD, Dynamo, Grasshopper) and design software such as RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik. Experience in seismic site-specific analyses using FLAC and Plaxis; experience in ground-improvement design to mitigate liquefaction.
