Job Description

TREASURER FOR THE VANCOUVER BACH CHOIR The Vancouver Bach Choir is seeking a volunteer Treasurer. The Vancouver Bach Choir, now in its 97th season, is a family of choirs, consisting of the Symphonic Choir, various chamber ensembles and various childrens choirs. The VBC is a registered Canadian charity. The volunteer Treasurer position is a working Board position, providing strategic leadership while also performing a number of controller functions in support of management (Executive Director). This is a hands-on position requiring approximately 10 hours per month of direct support and oversight. The term of the current treasurer ( a CPA) expires in November 2026. The Choir is seeking someone to join the board this November and then take over as treasurer in November 2026. Board terms are 3 years in length; a treasurer can serve for up to 6 consecutive years. The Board consists of 11 members, comprised largely of singers from the various choirs, or parents of children signers. The Board meets approximately monthly by Zoom on a Monday evening. The operating budget is approximately $800,000 with 2 FTE employees and approximately 20 contracted workers. The bookkeeping function is outsourced to an external bookkeeping company. Quickbooks Online is used. The Treasurer provides oversight and supervision to the organizations Office Manager and the out-sourced bookkeeper to ensure accounting records are accurate and complete, including necessary preparation of year-end journal entries recognizing revenue, deferrals and accruals. Additionally, the Treasurer, working with the ED and Board, provides: - Financial Reporting and Analysis preparing and analyzing financial statements, budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to senior management and board to support strategic planning and decision making - Budgeting and Forecasting developing annual budgets, cash flow planning, and financial forecasting to guide future financial strategies - Internal Controls establishing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain strong internal controls and safeguard assets - Regulatory compliance ensuring adherence to all reporting requirements; preparation of the annual Charity return - Audit Management coordinating with eternal auditors and providing necessary financial information for audits - Investment Management researching and analyzing investment strategies If you are detail oriented, like sharing your accounting expertise, are interested in a behind -the -scenes look at an arts organization, please consider this position.
