Responsibilities Operate designated equipment in accordance with all applicable procedures, policies, and regulations. Carry out routine Steam Power Plant duties such as: start, operate, maintain and monitor operation of Steam Turbines, High Pressure Boilers, industrial HVAC equipment, Air Compressors, and associated auxiliaries according to established procedures and as per TSSA authorization. Assist the Powerhouse Shift Operating Engineer on Power Plant startups and shutdowns as scheduled. Provide shift relief as required in accordance with Operating Engineers Regulations 219-01. Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, guidelines, standards, policies, procedures and practices. Provide isolation, lockouts, clearances and safe work permits on nominated equipment. Ensure all guards and safety lock-outs are in place and associated records and documentation attended. Ensure that all powerhouse activities are carried out in accordance with environmental legislation requirements. Maintain, monitor and conduct routine tests on fire protection systems and associated equipment. Coordinate work of designated fire protection contractor ensuring continuous and reliable plant protection. Participate with maintenance planning and repair of equipment. Carry out preventative maintenance tasks to insure all systems are fully functional at all time. Ensure daily documentation and accurate records are maintained. Coordinate and schedule outside contractors work in line with safety, quality and plant production rules. Essential Capabilities (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Attributes) A valid Ontario Second Class Operating Engineer Certificate is required. The job is within a heavy industrial environment; you may be required to work in various areas with conditions that may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy. Safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times, including wearing PPE such as hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection and safety shoes. Punctuality and attendance are important; you may be required to work at different times of day and on weekends, with overtime as needed. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good mechanical aptitude and proficient computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to respond quickly to dynamic circumstances. Ability to study and interpret mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation system blueprints and maintenance manuals. General knowledge of mechanical and electrical working practices and a proven ability to work safely and efficiently.
