Job Description

Overview The Office of the Registrar requires a Manager of Student Accounts. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing activities related to the administration, assessment, registration, recording, and control of student tuition, housing revenue, and associated fees. Responsibilities align with public sector accounting standards, established guidelines, institutional policies, and sound business practices. The role ensures that the Student Account Services team delivers efficient, accurate, and timely support to students while upholding a commitment to exceptional customer service. The Manager collaborates with other campus departments to provide information and support, aiding in the development of effective business processes and informed decision-making. Additionally, the incumbent conducts research, analysis, and reporting to support senior management and works with the Registrar and the Director of Finance in monitoring student financial activities. Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity; you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB. Duties & Responsibilities Provide leadership for strategic direction of the Student Account unit. Monitor the annual reporting cycle, including government compliance reporting, and collaborate with Information Technology and College stakeholders to meet timelines. Ensure accurate and complete billing of tuition and fees, including setting up fee tables, managing refunds, and processing financial transactions. Develop and maintain payment channels for tuition and fees, oversee refunds and reconciliation processes. Monitor and manage student account systems (e.g., Banner, Western Union) for billing, payment plans, and account adjustments. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure tuition and fees are assessed in alignment with policies. Review and resolve discrepancies in financial data, ensuring reconciliation with institutional financial systems. Collaborate with key departments (e.g., Registrars Office, Institutional Research, Finance, Schools) to ensure accurate billing for tuition and fees. Coordinate communication efforts, such as tuition notifications, student statements, and registration updates via multiple channels (email, portals, website). Maintain and update student accounts and advising-related information systems, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance. Qualifications Associate or bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from CPA Canada. 35 years of experience in student accounts, accounts receivable, or financial operations in a higher education setting. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, analytical software, or ERP systems. Strong numeric skills with understanding of inferential statistics as applicable to the Office of the Registrar. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management skills in planning, executing, and delivering results. Experience with privacy and confidentiality legislation (including FOIP). Experience working in post-secondary institutions. Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities. Proven experience managing financial transactions, billing, and payment processes. Preferred Experience Experience with student information and finance systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft).
