Employment Status: Regular Time Type: Full time Job Summary Under general direction, designs set-ups and conducts experimental programs and accurately obtains and records data; fabricates experimental apparatus. Performs R&D assignments that are not standardized or prescribed. May make modifications to experimental set-ups, troubleshoot, and correct equipment malfunctions as necessary, and provide oral and written status reports. Main function is to test products to the given Standards. Responsibilities Conducts a wide range of test procedures on equipment to the applicable standards and interprets the results of the test. Determines and reviews which tests are required, the order in which to perform tests, and the number of samples required. Performs tests and calculations, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists. Verifies calculations are consistent with results of measurements. Determines whether a product passes or fails subject to review by Certifier/Reviewer. Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing, and operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision. Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carries out assigned laboratory clean-up duties. Records technical data and draft reports. Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results as applicable. Relates test results to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by Lab Manager. Notes and records discrepancies or characteristics of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to Sr. Lab Tech, Certifier or Manager. Independently analyzes complex devices and equipment to determine compliance to applicable requirements. Contributes to the development and implementation of requirements for new and/or revised standards as required. Interacts with the Certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports and certification records. Maintains and initiates direct certifier contact to provide information and answer questions or obtain more product information. Tests to the certifiers requests and provides general and specific information about the certification testing process or status of a work order to assist the certifier and improve overall customer service and satisfaction. Provides the certifier with detailed interpretation of test results and construction evaluation and how it applies to the status of their certification. Performs witness testing as required by Lab Tech III or Manager. Knowledge on how to operate test equipment. Education And Experience 3-year Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience or Associates degree in Engineering Technology Related certification to field; i.e. OACETT membership preferred 5-8 years of related experience Proficient in EMC and radio standards testing which includes IEC 61000-4-X series CISPR 14, CISPR 32, CISPR 35, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 61326-1, EN 301 489, EN 300 328, FCC Part 15, 18. RSS-247 Familiar with EMC chamber calibrations like NSA, sVSWR, Field Uniformity Hands-on experience with RF and EMC measurements Skills Knowledgeable about safe practices; ability to move equipment around with or without assistance; follow safety practices; operate a variety of equipment to perform daily tasks Adaptable to a changing work environment Excel at research, problem-solving and project management Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to interact with internal and external customers Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to teach others, and work independently or as a team Strong time and project management skills to meet timelines Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Suite); able to learn CSA programs (CENTRA, etc.) or any test equipment-based software CSA Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
