Mission: As the Director of Care, you will contribute to the Extendicare purpose of Helping People Live Better, by leading a high performing team dedicated to ensuring all residents receive the care they need. The DOC is a highly skilled and compassionate leader who oversees care operations to deliver exceptional resident-centered care at a long-term care home. You will lead the care team in delivering best practices aligned with Extendicare, Accreditation standards and provincial regulations, and foster resident and family engagement to support satisfaction and trust. Responsibilities Cultivate and lead the resident care team, providing day-to-day guidance, fostering a positive work environment, driving high performance, and ensuring retention through an exceptional employee experience. Train care staff with the education required for effective performance and professional development. Financial stewardship: manage the care staff complement to meet provincial hours of care; assist with budget preparation and variance analysis for the nursing department. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and labour/employment standards; conduct timely investigations and action planning. Identify and manage resident issues, mitigate clinical risks, and respond to critical incidents per regulatory requirements. Respond to feedback from residents, families, vendors and team members with empathy and a customer-service mindset. Oversee resident assessment and care planning processes; ensure personalized care plans reflect resident preferences. Collaborate with the leadership team, care staff, residents and families to deliver and optimize resident care. Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident safety, wellness and satisfaction. Support strategic planning at the home level, developing clinical operations and staffing plans to support resident care. Engage with vendors and community health partners on quality initiatives and training. Uphold Extendicares Mission, Vision, Values and ethics. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Masters degree preferred. Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license with the applicable Provincial licensing body. Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role in a long-term care facility or other health facility. Working knowledge of long-term care regulations, standards, and best practices. Proven leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and build positive relationships. Track record of quality improvement initiatives and positive resident outcomes. Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) and related technology. Core competencies: business knowledge, regulatory knowledge, program administration, people management, customer service, priority management, and leadership attributes such as strategy development, collaboration, communication, problem solving, and team development.
