Provides planning, direction, and leadership to subordinates, assuring the highest quality service program. Ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling departmental operating budget. Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager/AGM/Director of Operations.This role pays an annual salary of $50,000-$75,000 CADBenefits for Full-Time roles: Health, Dental and Vision Insurance, Pension matching, and Paid Time Off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays)This position will remain open until November 28, 2025.ResponsibilitiesJob Functions:Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the SOECPlan, direct and coordinate the set-up and tear down of facility equipment for all events and hockey gamesProvide management of services and personnel involved in event and hockey game setup/tear down operations for the facilityAssist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functionsEnsure compliance with event worker orders and relevant building and fire code regulationsEnsure compliance with the departmental standards and reporting requirementsAs directed, conduct a variety of industry related operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; implement approved modificationsMaintain cost records of work performed, materials used and prepare cost estimates as requested; prepare accounting for services rendered that are to be used in event settlementAssist in the development and administration of the Operations Department budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and obtain approval for all /setup related expenditures; receive and maintain supplies; make recommendations for, and implement approved budget adjustments as necessaryOversee the hiring, training and scheduling of operations part time staffPlan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for setup personnel; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; inspect work product of subordinates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures and to identify and resolve challengesProvide and coordinate staff training and safety programs; work with employees to correct deficienciesReceive and maintain suppliesMaintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly mannerPeriodically conduct inventory of all equipmentOperate a wide variety of equipment used in the daily operations of the facility such as high lifts, fork lifts, vans, housekeeping equipment etcEstablish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work: staff, contractors, facility usersAttend meetings representing the Operations departmentWork effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing prioritiesWork a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended number of daysPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsMinimum of 4+ years of increasing responsibility and experience in event setup in an arena, sports complex, convention centre, hotel or other public assembly facility.Minimum of 4-6 years of supervisory responsibilitiesMinimum High School Diploma or Equivalent. Post-secondary level education an added asset.Knowledge and experience of operational activities at public assembly facilities including but not limited to event setup/change overs, venue maintenance, hockey operations, event presentation and productionKnowledge of fire and public safety regulationsStrong leadership qualities, with emphasis in working with and training casual staffExcellent communication skills both written and verbalPossession of, or ability to obtain a current CPR/First Aid certificatePossession of valid drivers licensePossession of or ability to obtain fork lift/high lift operators certificationWorking knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functionsFamiliar with terminology used in entertainment and convention settingsKnowledge of customer service practicesMust have computer skills in Microsoft office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation, and internet softwarePhysical DemandsWhile performing duties of this job, employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders; work from heights; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach within hands and arms; talk and hear.E mployee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Strengthened by our Differences.
