Overview Betz Pools is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its finance function and support strategic growth. This role will streamline operations, enhance reporting accuracy, and provide financial insights to guide decision-making. Working closely with the COO and department heads, the Controller will modernize systems, strengthen controls, and help drive profitability across a contractor-heavy, seasonal business. Responsibilities Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting. Ensure compliance with bank covenants and regulatory requirements. Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, and expense tracking across seasonal and contractor-based operations. Evaluate and restructure the finance department to improve efficiency and eliminate redundancies. Maximize utilization of NetSuite by implementing dashboards, automating reporting, and reducing manual workflows. Formalize internal controls and accounting policies to enhance accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with department heads on project costing and profitability modeling. Support geographic expansion initiatives with financial modeling and contractor margin analysis. Provide financial insights to the COO and executive team to guide operational and strategic decisions. Manage and mentor the finance team, including performance assessments and personnel recommendations. Lead change management efforts to align staff with best practices and company goals. Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Liaise with external partners including MNP (accounting firm), National Bank, and benefit providers. Prepare and present quarterly financial reports and covenant updates to financial institutions. Qualifications CPA designation required. Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems. Strong understanding of project-based accounting, revenue recognition, and cost control. Experience with payroll systems and government remittances (HST, WSIB, etc.). Minimum 57 years in a senior accounting or controller role. Prior experience in construction, contractor-heavy, or seasonal service industries strongly preferred. Proven ability to lead teams, drive change, and manage cross-functional relationships. Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and high-end clients. High integrity, reliability, and accountability. Onsite presence requiredremote work is not permitted. Comfortable working in a blue-collar, hands-on environment with seasonal fluctuations.
