Overview Our HSSE&Q S&T Support branch is looking for an S&T Electrical Safety Specialist. You will support the Science & Technology (S&T) organization in the protection of people, environment, and equipment from unnecessary harm. What will you be doing Problem solving is essential for supporting the improvement of safety across CNL. Must have the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Inductive reasoning, ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). Analyzing data or information, identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into parts. Identifying objects, actions, and events: categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events. Using critical thinking, logic, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Making recommendations and engaging in decision making. Contributing to the project through an Integrated Work Team model, with core expertise in Occupational Health and Safety while maintaining a global understanding of HSSE principles. Expressing ideas and opinions clearly and effectively through oral communication. Managing duties through planning, time management, attention to detail, and prioritization. Partnering, seeking common goals, and collaborating with project teams and operational teams. Interacting with managers and directors to solicit advice and promote implementation strategies. Engaging the audience through presentation skills. Willing to occasionally travel; field work is a cornerstone activity and infrequent travel for training and conferences. What we are looking for Education Licensed from a recognized institution in any of the following: Industrial Electrician, electrical engineering, electronics engineering or red seal electrical trades equivalents. Occupational Health and Safety Certificate/Degree along with CRSP or CRST designation is desired. If no designation, then must be capable and willing to obtain within a reasonable time; and Will be required to take CNL Radiation Protection Group 3 training. Experience Seven to Eight (7-8) years of safety related and relevant experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research/lab, industrial and highly technical environments. Minimum five (5) years of electrical safety experience involving industrial, research and development electrical applications, PLC programming, electronics, and robotics. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of pressure boundary systems and S&Ts pressure boundary program would be considered an asset. Knowledge of the Integrated Work Control process would be considered an asset. Ability to communicate in French would be considered an asset. Be able to function in an integrated work team model that brings together subject matter experts to create work plans for various projects. Demonstrates safety first attitude and ensures activities are conducted with safety of CNL, the public, and employees foremost in mind. Ability to maintain and grow safety knowledge including industry best practices and pending changes in legislation. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and training/presentation skills. Resource, observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources. Physically fit, able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 7.5 hours a day; able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment; able to use personal protective equipment including a respirator. Ability to remember what is seen and heard for reporting. Coordination and planning skills. Working knowledge of occupational health & safety legislation relating to general research, laboratory, and industrial environments. Working knowledge of Canadian and Ontario Electrical Codes, Workplace Electrical Safety Standard CSA Z462, and Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Piping Code CSA B51. Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation that affects occupational health and safety within CNL. Knowledge of the CNL OSH Program is an asset. Working knowledge of radiation protection principles is an asset; willingness to undertake and complete formal and on-the-job CNL Radiation Protection training relevant to this position. Industrial Hygiene operating instructions and procedures; incident/investigation; customer service principles; office procedures and software. Security Clearance Eligibility Required Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat standards. Working Conditions Physically fit, able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 7.5 hours a day; able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment; able to use personal protective equipment including a respirator. Primarily field work in various S&T Laboratories and Facilities in both radiologically active and non-active environments.
