Position Summary Overview: Under the general direction of the Building Systems Manager and/or Director of Operations, the Building Systems Technician performs duties related to the maintenance and repair of the venue's mechanical operating systems. This role offers an annual salary of $55,000 CAD - $75,000 CAD. This position will remain open until October 31, 2025. Responsibilities: Assist with the daily operation and maintenance of mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Okanagan Hockey Group Training Centre, Penticton Trade & Convention Centre, and Memorial Arena. Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment. Work from general instructions and specifications with minimal supervision. Operate equipment such as high lifts, forklifts, ladders, drills, torches, saws, grinders, etc. Ensure tasks are completed timely according to standards. Maintain detailed work records. Receive and maintain supplies, keep storage areas organized. Work effectively in a service-oriented environment with changing priorities. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users. Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, and extended days. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12. Specialized training or diploma in HVAC maintenance or related mechanical systems. 24 years experience in maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and related systems. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Attention to detail. Familiarity with Windows-based computer programs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority, and CSA standards. Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations. Physical Demands: While performing duties, the employee must stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, sit, handle objects, reach, talk, and hear. Occasionally, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds is required. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
