Overview The Orthopaedic Technologist serves as a technical expert in matters pertaining to orthopaedic devices and techniques providing care to patients through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, bandages, slings, splints and traction fittings etc. The Orthopaedic Technologist fulfills the responsibilities of the position with a high degree of autonomy within established guidelines, working under the direction of a Supervising Physician to perform enhanced skills. Education Completion of a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Program. Current registration with C.S.O.T - Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists required. Member of local chapter of the Candadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists required. Qualifications Recent relevant experience is required. Demonstrated understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship to one another. Demonstrated ability to describe orthopaedic conditions. Demonstrated ability to apply, adjust and remove common orthopaedic devices. Demonstrated knowledge of working autonomously under medical directives. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to suture within medical directives. Excellent recognition, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Proficiency in the proper application of aseptic technique. Knowledge of skin and skeletal traction theory and application. Demonstrated ability to interpret fractures and dislocations on x-ray film. Willingness to continue education to maintain certification as required by CSOT. Ability to work well autonomously and collaboratively with the health care team. Effective time management, organization and prioritization. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficient computer knowledge. Ability to perform in a fast paced emergency room environment. Good work and attendance record.
