Health and Safety Specialist, Corporate (Part-time role - 6 months to one year) Overview SMART Technologies is seeking a Corporate Health and Safety Specialist for a part-time, limited-term role in our Calgary downtown office. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of occupational health and safety legislation at provincial and federal levels, along with hands-on experience in hazard identification, risk management, and safety training. This role serves as the first point of contact for HSSE inquiries and incidents and aims to foster a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with Canadian regulations and HSE best practices (e.g., CSA, OHSA, WCB, OSHA, ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, WHMIS). Conduct regular workplace inspections, ISO 14001:2015 audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Lead incident investigations and ensure timely reporting, documentation, and follow-up on remedial action where applicable. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance across all jurisdictions. Collaborate with management, HR, and operations teams to foster a safe and healthy work environment. Monitor HSSE performance indicators, identify trends and recommend improvement strategies. Prepare and present safety reports, statistics and recommendations to leadership. Deliver training sessions for internal stakeholders. Participate in and support the Health and Safety Committee in all activities and internal safety initiatives across all business units. Address non-compliance and hazards with corrective actions. Conduct facility inspections, complete safety inspection reports, and follow up on corrective action items. Maintain Safety Boards. Education and Experience Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation is required. 3+ years of prior experience working within the Occupational Health & Safety discipline. Strong knowledge of HSSE risk management, control hierarchy and effective safety program development. Advanced incident investigation and root cause analysis skills. Ability to make critical decisions in complex and high-risk situations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively and prioritize tasks, often with competing deadlines. Ability to work without supervision, take initiative and communicate effectively with team members and other business units and departments. Experience in developing and delivering effective HSSE training companywide using excellent presentation skills. Up to date First Aid certification. Open-to and offer suggestions with a focus on continual improvement; individually, with the safety team, and the organization. Working Conditions Part-time position for up to 24 hours a week. This is a limited-term role of 6 months to one year. The position is in our Calgary downtown office.
