Bright Start Program Assistant Volunteer Organizational Description: NorWest Co-op Community Health Centre has served the Inkster community in northwest Winnipeg since 1972. NorWest is a forerunner in taking a multi-service, holistic, team approach to health care. We provide a wide range of health related services including medical care, counselling, education and community outreach. Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 5656 Description of Duties: Help with set up of the room or gym; including play space, toys, carpet, books and activities Support staff in delivery of program and do any other general tasks as requested Cooperate with staff and other volunteers to share and initiate tasks First time guests should be offered information pamphlet and be directed fill out registration form Assist with providing site information to first time guests including registration, program, play activities, timelines, services, washrooms, water fountain Interact with families and refer parents to service providers if they have questions Follow the lead of the Bright Start Staff to participate in play activities Help implement any surveys or questionnaires Follow staff directions to help with food preparation according to staff guidelines and food safety Help with table set-up, plates and utensils and serving food as appropriate Keep kitchen clean, wash dishes and sanitize according to staff directions Help to clean up program space, sanitize and put away toys and equipment Check with staff before leaving, return name tags and write down or ask if staff wrote down your hours Skills Required: Interest in family health Comfortable with and enjoy children Interest in preparing food Respectful, nonjudgmental, positive attitude Understand NorWest's vision, mission and values Outgoing with a willingness to take initiative Skills Gained/Related Careers: Child Care Assistant Social Services Community Development Age: 16-17, 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment: Daytime Tuesday 9:15 AM - 12:00 PM Bright Start Gilbert at Gilbert Park Gym Wednesday 9:15 AM - 12:00 PM Bright Start Access at NorWest Co-op Community Health Thursday 9:15 AM - 12:00 PM Bright Start WestBrook at Weston Community Centre Can commit to one or more days and locations Location of volunteer opportunity: Winnipeg Does opportunity require a criminal record check?
