Main Purpose & Function The Sewers and Drainage Design branch includes engineers and technicians working in multi-disciplinary and multi-departmental teams responsible for the renewal, design, construction and management of the Citys integrated sewage and drainage network. Sewer system renewal, network management and system optimization support the Citys efforts to be a leader in clean water, excellent customer service and city resilience. The incumbent will report to the Drafting Supervisor and work as part of a Drafting Team creating and managing accurate sewer infrastructure construction drawings and as-built information, while working in a GIS/AutoCADMap3D & Civil 3D/TopoBase environment using departmental digital/paper records. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Create sewer design construction drawings using GIS/AutoCAD/TopoBase environment using departmental paper records and electronic databases Update GIS as-built information Research and provide technical and other information regarding sewer and water infrastructure for the public, city staff and private companies, providing written correspondence as required Undertake quality control processes related to existing GIS data Make recommendations to improve branch processes and information access needs Carry out design and construction technical assignments Perform other technical duties required to meet the operational needs of the Sewers branch Communicate and correspond with the public, private companies, outside agencies and other City branches Other duties/responsibilities as assigned Qualifications Education and Experience: Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Institute of Technology diploma or completion of equivalent University courses an asset Experience as an Engineering Assistant an asset Experience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings in Civil 3D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good knowledge of municipal design and construction of sewer systems Knowledge of surveyor methods and techniques Working knowledge of standard engineering concepts and terminology Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service Ability to perform accurate survey work, draft simple designs, and make routine office and field engineering computations Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and understand specifications Ability to problem solve with accuracy in a technical environment; Ability to work efficiently in a team environment with little supervision and under tight time lines Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather Proficient in the use of software applications, geographical information systems and databases such as TopoBase, Hansen, AutoCAD Map 3D, and Civil 3D Ability to arrange suitable transportation to various work locations Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program. The Citys COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.
