The City is making a transformational cultural shift on how we approach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). As an Occupational Hygienist, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and implementing controls designed to eliminate workplace hazards. Primary duties include: Review and interpret federal and provincial occupational and public health legislation as it applies to The Citys operations, procedures and policies. Provide technical expertise, oversee, and implement continual improvement of safety programs, such as: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Respiratory Hazards Management, Noise Management, Respiratory and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Evaluate, assess, coordinate and implement recommendations to reduce or eliminate exposure to occupational and public health hazards for the corporation. Identify, evaluate, and implement controls to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards; suggest changes to work environments and processes to reduce the risk of injury or illness from occupational hazards. Develop and implement an industrial hygiene matrix for divisions, projects and operations. Qualifications A degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Physics or a related field and at least 5 years of work experience in Occupational Hygiene, which includes hands-on expertise in field skills such as sampling and assessments. Must be eligible to obtain a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation through the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH), OR Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation through the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC). A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending, and the use of a personal vehicle for business use. A Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation accredited by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) will be considered an asset. Excellent communication skills and the ability to analyze variables, interpret results, and develop solutions. Working Conditions This position conducts site visits with regular exposure to hazards such as noise, dust, and adverse weather conditions. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required during site visits. Pre-employment Requirements A security clearance will be conducted.
