Job Summary The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial operations across Picnic Capital and its operating companies. Working closely with the CFO, this individual will oversee accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls, while supporting the broader strategic objectives of the business. Responsibilities Financial Operations & Reporting Direct day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, payables/receivables, payroll, and treasury management. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements across multiple entities. Perform variance analysis, account reconciliations, and financial modeling to support leadership decision-making. Oversee cash management, ensuring optimal liquidity and accurate forecasting of cash requirements. Maintain and enforce robust internal controls, policies, and procedures, identifying and implementing improvements. Coordinate annual audit processes, acting as the main point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, and external accountants. Ensure timely tax planning, compliance, and filings across multiple entities and jurisdictions. Develop and deliver management dashboards, KPI reporting, and financial metrics aligned with strategic goals. Support CFO with investor reporting packages. Development & Construction Support Partner with Highpoints development and construction teams to ensure rigorous financial tracking of all active projects. Monitor project budgets, variances, and cost-to-complete analysis, ensuring accountability and accuracy. Prepare and submit funding requisitions, lender draw packages, and equity contribution schedules. Ensure compliance with construction loan agreements, partnership structures, and investor reporting obligations. Oversee project cost certifications, lien management, and subcontractor payment approvals. Provide financial insight into proformas, feasibility studies, and project performance metrics. Assist in evaluating project financing structures, including debt, equity, and joint venture arrangements. Maintain reporting for residential and commercial asset stabilization, including lease-up performance, NOI tracking, and asset-level KPIs. Implement and upgrade accounting and financial systems to improve reporting accuracy, scalability, and efficiency. Document and streamline end-to-end accounting workflows across corporate, development, and construction entities. Lead and mentor accounting staff, providing training, coaching, and clear development paths. Build scalable financial infrastructure to support growth from startup-stage processes to institutional-grade standards. Collaborate with CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, ensuring alignment between corporate and project-level goals. Support CFO in capital allocation modelling and scenario planning for investment decisions. Drive a culture of accuracy, accountability, and transparency within the finance function. Requirements 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role. Strong knowledge of real estate development, construction, or investment finance. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-entity, multi-project accounting structures. Hands-on experience with construction and development financing compliance. Solid technical accounting knowledge (IFRS/ASPE) and experience preparing audited financial statements. Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent) and strong Excel modeling skills. Proven success in building or improving systems and processes in a scaling or entrepreneurial business. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a collaborative mindset. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment, balancing detail orientation with adaptability.
