Overview Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for four (4) Operations Specialists to fulfill operational, surveillance, and project responsibilities. You will provide technical advice and oversight, support new initiatives, and assist with the development and review of various reports. What will you be doing Developing a deep technical understanding of Systems, Structures, and Components associated with the Maintenance & Operations Organization and communicating that knowledge to support safe, effective, and efficient execution of work. Performing system and equipment walkdowns to validate field and documentation configuration. Attending pre- and post-job briefs to provide technical oversight, build relationships, and gain insight to problems, concerns, and potential solutions for system and equipment issues. Preparing detailed equipment and training manuals, work packages, technical documents, drawings, work scopes, procedures, estimates, and schedules. Anticipating problems and challenges and offering innovative solutions following good engineering methodology. Training and mentoring Maintenance & Operations staff in the function of Systems, Structures, and Components and with the business processes to support program implementation. Developing System Performance Maintenance Plans to set system and component strategy and key performance indicators (KPIs). Taking the lead on identifying System, Structure, and Component risk through ongoing operations and annual review. Developing and implementing mitigation plans including residual risk and expected timing of risk expiration. Representing the Maintenance and Operations organization while integrating with other critical groups onsite to facilitate the safe, effective, and efficient execution of Maintenance & Operations work. Participating in annual business planning to identify system and component performance expectations and how they support site performance requirements. Performing a monthly review comparing costs, resource utilization, material procurement, and performance metrics for the business plan and budget monthly targets. Reviewing System, Structure, and Component performance on a routine basis. Supporting the implementation of the CNL Management system through reviewing, updating, and implementing Maintenance & Operating procedures, work instructions, and related forms including Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance applicable to related Systems, Structures, and Components. Leading and participating as required to implement and continually improve the managed system. Participating and leading as required in Maintenance & Operation related business processes including Work Management, Project Management, Contract Management, Engineering Change Control, Financial Cost and Accounting. Authoring, revising and reviewing project documentation including Technical Scopes of Work, Client Requirement documents, Scope of work, and trades and contractor oversight. Participating in the planning and scheduling of material specification, procurement, and contractor evaluation processes. Supporting and leading the work management process through work identification, prioritization, planning, material procurement, resource support identification, scheduling, execution, and close out. Identifying areas of potential process, system and equipment effectiveness, and cost management improvements. Functioning as the Maintenance & Operations representative in the Engineering Change Control process. Providing specific program leadership and support related to Maintenance & Operations accountabilities. Other duties as assigned by your manager. What we are looking for Education Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing or significant related experience in a field of specialization pertinent to the position. Experience Experience in a nuclear operational or remediation environment. Experience with operational function and maintenance requirements of industrial equipment, remote tooling, and ventilation systems. Experience working in a highly regulated environment. Experience in Project Management and Engineering Change Control. Experience in working with contractors. Three - five (35) years' of engineering experience is an asset. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to think through complex problems to identify and evaluate potential solutions. Strong decision-making process based on documented reasoning. Able to work under pressure with conflicting priorities. Presents high-quality technical writing skills. Able to interpret complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format. Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Results-driven with the ability to interpret project needs and implement solutions. Knowledge of systems, structures and components associated with nuclear facilities. Aware of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals and how they apply to decommissioning. Knowledge of working in a highly regulated environment and of managed systems and related policies, programs, and procedures. Familiar with safety regulations, guidelines, standards, and codes relevant to decommissioning. Knowledge of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination controls. Knowledge of CNSC 2.13.1 Safeguards & Nuclear Material Accounting and CNSC Criticality Safety. Knowledge of INMAS to receive, move and ship fissionable material at the WL site. Security Clearance Eligibility Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's Standard on Security Screening and the Policy on Government Security. Working Conditions We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am. Office environment with regular concentration at a computer screen. Site visits will be required during all stages of the project. Use of all applicable safety equipment and adherence to safe work policies, radiation protection policies, and any other CNL safety requirements as mandated by the organization.
