Overview The role: Veterinary Extern - General Practice at NVA Canada . An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Brack Animal Hospital in Windsor, Ontario is an AAHA Accredited hospital since 1964 and offers an excellent opportunity for veterinary students looking to gain hands-on experience through an externship. As a full-service companion animal hospital, Brack Animal Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care throughout the life of pets, including routine preventive care, early disease detection and treatment, and comprehensive medical and surgical care. Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Duration and Eligibility Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Students in their 4th year/clinical year are encouraged to participate. Clinical portion students are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Details on stipend amounts and the program are available through the stipend program materials.
