Discover The Opportunity Faculty - Wind Turbine Technician Education Strait Area Campus Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia School of Technology and Environment Continuing Full-time Position: Commencing approximately January 2, 2026 Application deadline is 11:59PM, October 23, 2025 Competition No. 2526-251 The salary scale for NSCC Faculty is based on steps that range from $78,771.88 - $104,267.58. New Faculty may receive up to a maximum of five steps for relevant occupational experience and may receive up to an additional four steps for full-time equivalent years of instructional experience (instructional experience is defined as teaching post-secondary). The maximum a new Faculty can expect to receive is nine steps or $97,388.02. PLEASE NOTE: A 'Return of Service Agreement' Will Be Required: NSCC is making a significant investment in the successful candidate. Therefore, as a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to sign a Return of Service Agreement to confirm their commitment to delivering the program. The successful candidate will participate in a 10-week out-of-country certification program beginning in early 2026 and must remain in the position for a minimum of 28 months, through April 2028. In certain circumstances, including voluntary resignation, the successful candidate will be required to repay all or part of the out-of-country training and certification fees and expenses. Therefore, candidates must be comfortable with the 28-month commitment period of this position. What youll do Responsibilities As a member of the School of Technology and Environment faculty team, you will: Provide theoretical and practical instruction in the Wind Turbine Technician program, leading the development of this new program during Winter 2026, including curriculum design and instructional planning, and delivering the program starting in Fall 2026. Facilitate safety certification training, which includes demonstrating rescue procedures and climbing ladders and entering the simulated nacelle to model safe and effective rescue techniques. Collaboratively design and deliver educational experiences for a diverse group of learners, including preparation, instruction, assessment, and evaluation of students using a broad range of flexible teaching and learning practices and technologies such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace) and classroom technology. Ensure health and safety practices and procedures are followed in your classroom, shops, and labs. Maintain currency with the latest industry practices relevant to your program and continually develop your understanding of 21st century teaching and learning practices. This position may involve different delivery modalities (e.g., in-class, online, blended online/in-class), off-site instruction and alternate work hours such as weekends and evenings. Related duties include but are not limited to academic and career advisement, participating on committees, program marketing, curriculum revision/development through collaborative practice within faculty working groups, supporting, and monitoring work placements, liaising with business and industry, representing the College as required and upholding NSCC policies and procedures. What youll need Qualifications Qualifications and Occupational Experience: The minimum educational qualification for this position is a college certificate as a Wind Turbine Technician, or current journeyperson status in a relevant trade (such as millwright, electrician, automotive mechanic, etc.), or recognized certification or training as a Wind Turbine Technician. You possess the current safety certifications required to work on wind turbines. You have a minimum of five years (fulltime equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience as a Wind Turbine Technician. You have experience in training and mentoring new wind turbine technicians. You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in the service, maintenance, and operation of wind turbines regarding electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. You must be able to comply with wind industry requirements regarding the limits of fall protection systems. You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and email. Knowledge of Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace or a similar platform will be considered an asset. You have strong troubleshooting skills for both electrical and mechanical systems and have familiarity with SCADA systems. Advanced Rescue Training and/or Rope access certification will be considered an asset. You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience, including multimedia technologies and a variety of platforms that will engage students in online and blended learning. Ideally, you have related experience in delivery of educational programs or training to adults. Occupational experience that includes experience in providing performance feedback will be considered an asset. You have knowledge and experience in applying WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety and occupationspecific safety practices. You are comfortable using multimedia technologies and a variety of platforms that will serve to engage students in online and blended learning capacities. The ability to teach effectively in an online/blended environment which includes building knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of courses delivered whole or in part online, using a course management system to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community will be an important factor in your success. Candidates who do not have previous online/blended teaching experience must be open to and willing to participate in training for this delivery model.
