Overview Stantec is seeking a Terrestrial Ecologist or Environmental Scientist with experience in vegetation ecology and wetlands to join our Environmental Services Team in Atlantic Canada. Depending on candidate qualifications, this will be a contract position with the potential to transition to a full-time permanent position based on performance and availability of work, or a full-time permanent position. Your Responsibilities Plan and/or participate in field programs, along with associated data entry/management, which may include the following inventories and assessments depending on technical competency: Wetland delineation and functional assessment Vascular plant surveys and vegetation community characterization Lichen surveys Design and implement baseline wetland and vegetation surveys for species and ecosystems Contribute to and/or write technical reports such as results of baseline desktop and field studies Assessments of potential effects to plants and ecosystems as a result of development projects Recommendations for suitable management and mitigation measures Environmental monitoring and management plans Restoration and/or revegetation plans and designs Travel to various local and/or remote field sites with overnight travel sometimes required, and occasional 1-2 week shifts away from home Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantecs HSSE Program Your Capabilities and Credentials Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data in wetlands, vascular plants, or lichens Knowledge of NB/NS/PEI/NFLD flora, ecosystem classification, and provincial data collection protocols A valid drivers license and good driving record Able to lift 50 lbs and endure long days of physically and mentally challenging fieldwork Able to work effectively in a team and independently, as required Willingness to work in remote locations in a range of weather conditions, with overnight travel Time management skills to balance short-term work with varying priorities and deadlines Strong communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and electronic communications; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Strong initiative with the ability to adapt to changing conditions and make independent, informed decisions Knowledge of current federal and provincial regulatory requirements relating to vegetation and wetlands Assets (not required but considered) Completion of wetland delineation and/or WESP-AC training courses Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing field programs Experience working with GIS software and digital data collection tools Education and Experience A bachelor or graduate degree or technical diploma in biology, ecology, botany, environmental management and/or related environmental field or equivalent skills. Prior experience in environmental consulting is an asset.
