Position Summary Reporting to the Director, Outreach & Product Services, the Career Development Manager is responsible for the development, maintenance, and improvement of APEGAs Career Development programs and initiatives. Managing the Career Development portfolio, this position will provide guidance to the Career Development team in the administration and coordination of these services. The Career Development team provides programs, resources and initiatives to registrants supporting both their regulatory-related and non-regulatory professional development tied to APEGAs key competencies and indicators used in our competency-based assessment (CBA). These programs and services provide an added benefit to APEGA registrants and permit holders. Responsibilities Management and accountability for the planning process for the annual schedule and development of Professional Development (PD) programming, including Nexus, webinars, and workshops, ranging from soft skills, regulatory, and technical topics for APEGA, and supporting branch PD as needed. Establish and monitor metrics to track the effectiveness of PD programs and initiatives, analyzing participation, progress, and success rates to make data-driven adjustments and demonstrate the impact of APEGAs PD initiatives. Manage and coordinate APEGAs professional development programs including working closely with branches to access appropriate speakers for workshops and webinars, ensuring the programming fits within our regulatory and non-regulatory guidelines. Establish a clear speaker selection process, ensuring speakers are appropriate and qualified in workshops and webinar content. Oversee APEGAs Learning Management System (LMS) course creation and offerings, ensuring the courses provided on the LMS are consistent in quality, design, and relevance, and that they support the professional learning and development of APEGA registrants Collaborate with internal departments to identify training needs and source content for LMS courses. Manage relationships with external vendors and partners involved in the LMS and our online courses. Develop and enforce policies and procedures for course creation, maintenance, and usage within the LMS. Recruitment and selection, performance management and feedback, training and development, planning and assigning portfolios, monitoring progress and adherence to timelines, providing day-to-day guidance and support, signing any required contracts, and setting goals and objectives. Contribute to the strategic and operational direction of the Professional Sustainability Division and Outreach & Product Service Department. Collaboration with the management team on the annual business plan and longer-term strategic goals and objectives. Ensure that the Career Development portfolio is aligned and represented. Core: Exemplifying Integrity Fostering Communication Results Orientation Teamwork Functional: Decision Making Ensuring Accountability Inspiring Others Learning & Development Thinking Strategically Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge and understanding of Career Development programs, including professional development and career resources Strong knowledge of career development, including theories, applications, career transitions and career growth in various stages of an individuals life cycle Strong knowledge of adult education, including approaches, theories, tools, learning management and phases Knowledge of contract management Strong knowledge of business processes, systems, defining and recommending business solutions, including goal setting, planning, decision making, budgeting and forecasting Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications Knowledge of current/emerging tools and various platforms available to effectively plan and host professional development sessions Awareness of self-regulating professions, regulatory environments, and CPD programs Knowledge of facilitation techniques and concepts Strong knowledge of confidentiality protocols and privacy requirements Shows a strong commitment and focus on delivering exceptional and professional customer service Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, projects, and process concepts, both orally and in writing, with ease and clarity Demonstrated ability to be a leader of change and transition Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor, manage, coach, and provide direction to a team Strong ability to build professional and productive relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders, including internal and external senior-level relationships Strong facilitation, collaboration, negotiation, relationship building, and consensus-building skills Effective communication skills, both verbal and written Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong writing and editing skills Effectively communicate the mission and vision of the association, serve as a role model and create and foster a culture of integrity throughout the association Ability to understand the direction/objectives of the association and align individual/departmental objectives accordingly Ability to secure co-operation and commitment from peers in other departments and other groups Ability to make logical decisions that enhance the performance of the business area Ability to build and maintain a strong team of staff Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and shift through projects quickly without sacrificing quality Ability to work with diverse groups of people Demonstrated professionalism, both in demeanor and appearance Qualifications Post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce, Adult Education, or a related field 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in training and development, career services/development or adult education, as well as business planning and management. Experience in program design and development/improvement, issues management and supervisory experience is required. Registered with or eligible for membership in the following associations would be considered an asset, Career Professionals of Canada, Career Development Association of Alberta, Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers or The Institute for Performance and Learning. Equivalencies may be considered.
