Jacobs is seeking 3 talented Building Mechanical Engineers to join our teams across Canada (Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba). As a Building Mechanical Engineer at Jacobs, youll be at the cutting edge of our efforts to bring innovation and excellence to infrastructure projects in the region. Responsibilities Lead the planning and design of mechanical (plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection) systems primarily for municipal water and wastewater facilities, and contribute to other municipal, industrial, and institutional projects. Prepare design drawings and specifications for submission to clients; provide jurisdictional plan checks and permitting support. Work with engineered systems including plumbing, HVAC package systems, central plants, air distribution, hydronic systems, and related controls. Design complete plumbing systems (utility and potable water distribution, drainage, and miscellaneous systems such as compressed air and natural gas). Design complete HVAC systems (package type and central plants). Design fire protection systems using a performance specification-based approach. Prepare calculations for plumbing and HVAC systems (water and drainage flows, water heater sizing, pump sizing and selection). Perform design calculations (air loads, pipe/duct/equipment sizing, ventilation, static pressure, energy analyses, life-cycle costs). Work independently, make technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice. Select equipment, coordinate with vendors, and edit specifications. Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings; develop master plans and perform field investigations. Coordinate with architects, technicians, and engineers of other disciplines; attend meetings and communicate with clients and stakeholders to address design issues. Demonstrate creativity and judgment in solving project delivery, technical, and client challenges; determine technical objectives and develop standards for technical activities. Qualifications Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (BSME); ABET accreditation preferred, but consideration given to other engineering degrees. 5+ years producing plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection design drawings and specifications for construction; experience in all three disciplines required. Odor control systems experience is an asset. P.Eng. or ability to obtain immediately upon hire. Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, local Provincial and National Building Codes, energy codes, plumbing codes, fire codes). Physically able to climb ladders and access mechanical spaces; valid Driver's License in your province of residence. Strong writing skills with experience preparing technical specifications and reports; willingness to learn new skills and practices. Experience with design tools (Carrier HAP or Trane Trace, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office). Experience with Bentley Microstation and energy modeling programs is an asset. Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) is an asset.
