They also manage and maintain mobile and fixed satellite communications systems, microwave systems, switchboards, cable plants, and all forms of command and control computer systems and networks. Their primary responsibilities include: Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on radios, radar, data processing, cryptographic, terminal, audio, and video equipment Inspecting, testing, and adjusting telecommunications equipment Repairing, overhauling, and supporting maintenance of telecommunications equipment Installing and conducting acceptance tests Liaising with command levels and functional groups, including base personnel Maintaining and advising on electromechanical and refrigeration aspects of telecommunications equipment Deploying with various units such as 8 Air Communications and Control Squadron, Tactical Control Radar Squadron, Canadian Forces Joint Signals Regiment, or CANSOFCOM Units Managing the lifecycle of telecommunications and information systems material Work Environment Technicians work in operation centres, static and mobile workshops, or outdoors, often at bases across Canada and globally, including the Arctic. Entry Requirements The minimum education requirement is Grade 10 with applied Math. Candidates with college diplomas may be considered for direct entry following assessment.
