Join to apply for the Operating Room Nursing Officer role at Canadian Armed Forces | Forces armes canadiennes 2 months ago Be among the first 25 applicants Overview As a member of the military, Operating Room Nursing Officers provide nursing care in the operating room domain to ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and supported populations in tertiary care and in-patient care environments in Canada and while on operation. They are employed in the Scrub and Circulating Nurse roles and have experience in the Medical Device Reprocessing Department. Operating Room Nursing Officers work within a collaborative practice model with other members of the healthcare team and lead nursing care delivery within their area of practice. They have opportunities to work in different nursing domains including: Patient care delivery; Policy and program management; Clinical leadership; and Training and education Work environment Operating Room Nursing Officers typically work in civilian hospitals, CAF Health Services Centres, operational units, training establishments, and headquarters. Work schedules may vary from shift work to a regular 40-hour week, depending on the environment. They are also called upon for exercises and emergencies, both domestic and international. During deployments, they live and work alongside CAF members in similar environments. If joining the Regular Force, after training, you will be assigned to your first base, with possible relocations. If joining the Primary Reserve, your part-time workplace will be your Reserve unit, with minimal obligations outside training. Civilian-trained nurses with a license and experience in operating rooms may be directly evaluated for placement, possibly requiring additional education or certification. Training After Lieutenant training, selected Nursing Officers must complete a formal operating room nursing course and obtain certification through a Canadian civilian tertiary care facility, tailored to their experience level. Opportunities for further specialization in management and policy are available through additional courses. Part-time options Reserve Force Nursing Officers are trained to the same standards as Regular Force. Civilian experience should reflect varied operating room settings.
