Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canadas #1 utility construction provider and were looking for a Horizontal Directional Driller to help us get there. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Horizontal Directional Driller will be responsible for all phases of directional drilling jobs by planning, execution and management in order to meet or exceed client expectations. This will be a unionized position. Key Responsibilities Conduct pre-trip/walk-around safety inspection. Operate all equipment functions independently and safely. Provide technical support to clients and crew members as required. Keep abreast of all directional drilling techniques and surveying methods. Manage inventory and supplies. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving of loads and respond to hand or audio signals from team members. Interpret stakes and signage on the land. Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled. Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and adhere to timelines and deadlines daily. Adhere to site and Aecon policies and regulations; work with minimal supervision. Maintain excellent communication between team members and clients. Train, coach, and mentor less experienced directional drillers. Collaborate with the team by assisting other members as required. Required Knowledge And Experience Horizontal directional drilling experience or training. Post-secondary education is an asset. Experience running a Vermeer 40x55 or similar. Familiar with Digitrak Locating Equipment (F5, F5 Falcon) is an asset. Valid Ontario Class G license AZ License is preferred. Complete clients site-specific training as required. Ability to be dispatched through the local union as per the collective agreement. Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art drilling and surveying technologies and practices.
