Position Summary The Senior Payroll Administrator will ensure timely and accurate payroll processing across multiple provinces, multiple countries and varying business lines. The role will support payroll policy developments, improvement initiatives, and lead the resolution of complex payroll matters. The ideal candidate must have a collaborative, professional, and service-oriented approach when interacting with business partners, utilizing strong communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Administration Perform certain bi-weekly and weekly payroll pre-commit audits for all pay groups while providing a level of team leadership, guidance and oversight to the full bi-weekly payroll process. Enter and approve Quick Entry (QE) forms in the Payroll Import Tool (PIT) for processing in Ceridian Dayforce. Conduct payroll data reviews for discrepancies, such as negative balances or rate mismatches. Coordinate manual check imports, off-cycle requests, ROEs, and stop payment cases with Ceridian. Prepare, review, and post payroll related journal entries to the accounting system. Audit & Compliance Audit Dayforce Timesheets and cohesion imports; reconcile variances between systems. Review negative YTD balances and process adjustments accordingly. Investigate unusual transactions such as invalid payouts or duplicate entries. Support HR/Operations and take a lead role on behalf of the Payroll team on issue resolution and error corrections. Communication & Support Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related queries via email and Microsoft Teams. Act as a primary business partner in collaborating with HR teams to correct employee data issues, pay group assignments or other employee or payroll data or configuration issues. Respond to Service Canada and Ceridian cases, ensuring timely and accurate resolution. Reporting & Analysis Prepare and review payroll reports including PIER, GL journal entries, and earnings summaries. Lead and review data reconciliation between Dayforce and third-party systems like Cohesion. Manage quarterly and year-end processes, including calendar setup and discrepancy resolutions. Collaborate with Accounting on payroll reconciliations such as WCB, EHT, and other payroll related GL accounts. Project Support & Training Participate in configuration and implementation of new pay codes, rules, and holiday policies. Manage wage updates, minimum wage adjustments, and annual increases. Lead the response and deliverables for external audits (e.g., financial statements auditors, worker's compensation, etc.). Draft and keep current applicable training material for payroll and HR teams. Lead, mentor, and coach newer or less experienced team members. Other Duties Process final payouts for retiring or departing salaried managers (e.g., vacation, RRSP, etc.). Coordinate with multiple internal teams and Ceridian Managed Services to resolve issues. Leverage advanced knowledge of payroll systems and process understanding to create enhancements and efficiencies for the department. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Payroll Manager. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field. 5+ years of payroll experience, with progressive responsibilities demonstrated. Strong knowledge of payroll systems. Knowledge of Ceridian a plus. Comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance and reporting requirements. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to train and coach staff. Ability to work with little to no supervision. Proactive and ambitious.
