We are seeking a highly skilled Engineer/Scientist Electrical Design for OPG Site Services to join our Design and Engineering Services team in Durham Region, supporting OPG sites such as Pickering and Darlington. The role is within the OPG Site Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation & Control) section and involves refurbishment projects and/or new build projects led by Kinectrics OPG site services team. The successful candidate will design electrical systems and/or components for both the traditional nuclear market and new nuclear initiatives, working within a multi-discipline engineering team primarily supporting the design engineering team located in Durham Region. The role engages in refurbishment and/or new build projects led by the OPG site services team. Accountabilities To deliver electrical engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. Key responsibilities include: Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs through a structured design process. Provide technical oversight and mentoring of junior engineers. Provide electrical power distribution design and analysis for operating nuclear and other industrial plants. Perform condition assessments of electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, switch gears, motors, motor control centers, generators, etc.). Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs. Perform engineering change design and analysis following established Engineering Change Control procedures. Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection. Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the design project. Provide field support to multi-disciplinary plant design modifications, including field engineering. Provide technical guidance and direction on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate. Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate solutions. Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects. Stay current with developments within your field of expertise. Regular travel/visits to client sites in Durham region and occasional travel within the GTA. Other duties as assigned. What You Need To Succeed Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). 5+ years experience in electrical design engineering. A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) or eligible for PEO status. Proven track record in electrical design and analysis in electrical power distribution, including nuclear plants. Strong knowledge of generating station power upgrades including system protection and relaying. Experience in condition assessments of electrical equipment. Knowledge of life cycle management of electrical equipment. In-depth knowledge of codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286) as applied to nuclear and conventional plants. Experience in project management and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge and experience with nuclear power plant systems & processes (experience with Engineering Change Control is an asset). Good time management and the ability to interface effectively with station customers. Strong understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation. Experience leading technical projects to successful conclusions. Ability to assist in proposals and contract negotiations with clients. Excellent written and oral communication skills; commitment to quality. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to lead complex multi-disciplinary projects. Innovative, enthusiastic, and able to work with engineering professionals to produce timely, high-quality work. Ability to organize and prioritize work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently. Motivated by working with professionals and able to work under pressure as a team player. OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.
