The location in Port Mellon, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Human Resources Specialist . This job is full-time permanent. Responsibilities The Human Resources Specialist position ensures the effective integration of human resources and health & safety functions. In conjunction with the Site and Human Resource leadership, they have responsibility and accountability for managing employee relations functions, benefits administration, policies, procedures and program at the work site. This position manages confidential and highly sensitive legal documents and participates in the management of employee accountability including discipline. Coordinates occupational health and safety programs to ensure the wellbeing of those on site. Provides guidance to all levels of management to promote a culture that ensures the highest standards of safety and occupational health. Employee Relations: fosters and promotes positive employee and labour relations; establishes and maintains constructive communication and effective working relationships with management; provides advice on employee relations issues; participates in employee counseling and disciplinary meetings; counsels management on resolving employee issues; liaises with payroll and safety department to resolve issues; participates in case management of WCB and STD return-to-work programs; administers group benefits plans and orients new employees to the benefit package and pension. Safety: promotes a safety culture, motivates leaders and employees to identify unsafe conditions or acts, and assists in implementing changes to prevent injuries; supports management with respect to health and safety needs and issues; acts as a participant and resource for the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee; assists in corrective actions from safety analyses, audits and inspections; supports ongoing improvement in occupational health, safety and loss prevention. General: liaises with payroll and safety department to resolve issues; uses SAP to assist in ordering and receiving parts and services to support site operations; performs all other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Education / Technical / Experience A university degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline such as human resources, business, etc. A CHRP would be an asset. A CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CHSC (Certified Health & Safety Consultant) designation would be an asset. At least five (5) years of experience in Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety in an Industrial setting. Superior investigative skills and ability; experience managing and/or leading employee relations activities in an industrial environment; proven strategic thinker with the ability to develop proactive labour strategies; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong conflict resolution and change leadership capabilities; ability to engage others. Experience in Emergency Response programs such as fire department involvement, hazmat training, or incident command would be an asset. Strong interpersonal skills, comfort in a small team environment and interacting with senior level managers; high standards of integrity; ability to adapt to changing environments; sense of urgency in safety improvements; ability to handle complexity and balance big picture with details; decisive while understanding organizational sensitivity; experience with a Purchasing and Inventory control system. Salary Salary information: $65,000.00 to $80,000.00 CAD per year.
