The Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Clinical Extern position will collaborate with the interprofessional care team in providing daily care within a supportive role through a therapeutic focus (outside of controlled acts) with the platform to develop important clinical skills while increasing their knowledge of a hospital. Responsibilities Assist with patient mobility, positioning, repositioning, transfers (e.g., bed, chair, wheelchair, commode/toilet, supporting mechanical lift transfers) Assist with PT/OT treatment plans with a functional and/or therapeutic exercise focus, individual or group based Assist with patient ambulation and use of appropriate assistive devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, appropriate footwear, splints) Demonstrate accountability for own patient care by adhering to hospital policies and procedures Assist with treatment interventions under supervision, including individual and group-based, cognitive, range of motion activities as appropriate and safe Provide care in collaboration with staff and communicate with the interprofessional care team Support patient independence in scheduling and directing their own self-care, productivity and recreation/leisure participation In partnership with patients, families and the team, assist with patient- and family-centered, goal-directed, evidence-based care and outcomes Respect patients rights to make decisions based on their values and beliefs Contribute to an efficient unit by participating in quality improvement activities and related duties (e.g., restocking supplies, cleaning/sanitizing equipment) Qualifications Proof of current enrollment in an accredited PT or OT graduate degree program Bachelors degree in a health-related field is preferred Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities Interest in supporting our geriatric population Additional Benefits Vacation entitlement Opportunity to enroll in HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) Access to 24/7 Employee Assistance Program Application Notes Internal Applicants: Current Baycrest employees must apply online through the Baycrest intranet.
