Job Description

The Senior IML Automation Technician serves as the subject matter expert in the automation of In-Mold Labeling (IML) and other related automation processes at E. Hofmann Plastics. This role involves operating and maintaining injection molding machines to ensure the production of high-quality plastic components. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Responsibilities Robotics: Setting up, adjusting, and maintaining the automation equipment to meet production specifications and ensure optimal performance. Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with robots, label handling units, vision system, stacking equipment, and other related machinery. Preventative Maintenance and Controls: Implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment. Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency of the IML process, reduce cycle times, and minimize waste. Site Liaison and SME (subject matter expert): Act as the site contact for contractors and communicate with external contractors regarding new and existing equipment. Initiate MOC and PSAs for new equipment. Work closely with other technicians, operators, and supervisors to ensure smooth production flow and address any issues that arise. Leadership: Lead a team of 2-5 Automation (Electromechanical Technicians) and Electromechanical cooperative education / summer student(s) as required. Safety: Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and procedures. Compliance and Improvement: Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, FDA). Support implementation of Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S initiatives to improve product quality and reduce waste. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 8 years hands-on experience in IML Automation related to injection molding setup and processing. Minimum 6 years experience programming, set up, troubleshooting robotic technology. High school diploma or college degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience in robotics or automation technology. Ability to quickly identify and resolve technical problems with automated equipment Understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to perform maintenance and repairs. Familiarity with electrical and electronic components of automation systems Experience with automation programming languages and software Ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing. Mechanical ability and understanding of engineering principles. Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and implement them effectively. Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve production goals. Availability to work different shifts and weekends when required. Physical and mental effort Standing, walking, and moving over and through equipment. Can be heavy lifting, pulling, or wrenching. Many activities and movements require constant attention to detail. Good reading and verbal communication skills are required. Working conditions Must wear all required personal protective equipment: CSA approved safety shoes in good condition, applicable hearing protection, applicable safety glasses and hair net. Exposure to hot, humid conditions in the summer months. Maintain a high degree of safety awareness, in all areas of the plant. Work involves a high degree of visual attention involving constant attention when working on equipment. Must be able to work flexible working hours to accommodate machine breakdowns.
