Overview Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Cardiac Surgery The Department of Cardiac Health, Division of Cardiac Surgery at Southlake Health and the University of Toronto is inviting applications for a full time academic cardiac surgeon with specialized training and experience in TAVR and aortic surgery. The effective date of this appointment is as soon as possible. Responsibilities Responsibilities include clinical, scholarly, and administrative duties, as required. The candidate will provide effective and collaborative leadership at the hospital, provincial, national, and international level. Start-up support and mentorship will be provided for the successful candidate. Qualifications MD, MBBS or equivalent; proficiency in English. Recently qualified fellowship-trained surgeon with outstanding potential, or an established surgeon with international reputation. Experience with most aspects of cardiac surgery including revascularization, valve repair and replacement, and aortic surgery. Specialized training in TAVR and aortic disease and surgery. Eligibility for appointment as a Surgeon-Scientist, Surgeon-Investigator, Surgeon-Teacher, or other academic stream at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, and eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Candidates must obtain appropriate Visa if applicable. Program and environment Division comprises 5 full-time cardiac surgeons, ~1,000 open cases per year; supported by nurse practitioners and nurse first assistants, 3 cardiac ORs, 10 bed CVICU, 4 bed step-down unit. Regional program 35 km north of Toronto serving 1.5 million people and 10 hospitals. Structural heart program including TAVR and MitraClip. Compensation Compensation is through fee-for-service billing and on-call stipend; expected approximately $600,000-$700,000 CAD per year depending on clinical workload.
