The opportunity The University of Manitoba is looking for an Accounting Specialist. This position is responsible for reconciling group insurance premium general ledger accounts and the LTD and Dental reserve accounts, reviewing statements, preparing various accounting entries, and preparing reports for management and insurance carriers. All ledgers and third party reporting related to the group insurance benefit plans are verified by this position. The qualifications and experience were looking for Completion of two years of post-secondary accounting education. Candidates with investment/market knowledge and experience are preferred. Additional courses in the field of employee benefits such as Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Life Office Management Association (LOMA) would be an asset. Three (3) years of directly related experience required. Must possess strong financial accounting background. Experience in a large unionized environment or a life insurance company or a benefits consulting organization is preferred. Good level of knowledge of financial management and human resource management systems, with particular knowledge of the Benefits and Payroll deduction preferred. In-depth knowledge of collective agreements, group insurance contracts, policies, and processes of the University of Manitoba preferred. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficient in Microsoft Office suites, specifically Excel and Word, and database retrieval systems required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be capable of organizing and prioritizing work schedules. Strong mathematical and analytical skills and present solutions against possible negative outcomes required. Must be self-motivated and capable of organizing and prioritizing large volume of work. Must possess a philosophy consistent with a collaborative, integrated approach to business processes and principles. Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required. Why the University of Manitoba?
