Overview Spirit of English is an exciting Canadian phenomenon in education, offering above-average students an opportunity to stretch their understanding of English with others like them in an after-school setting. Spirit of English is seeking a teacher who enjoys the art of language, likes to share their passion of working with kids, and has a desire to stretch themselves. This is not a tutoring position, but a teaching position for classes of highly motivated and exceptional students. Teachers selected to teach with Spirit of English Validation classes are provided with training before they begin, as well as ongoing training and feedback sessions throughout the year. The ideal candidate is patient, gregarious, and highly dependable. You excel at connecting with children by providing a balance of kindness and firmness. You understand the importance of providing children with a structured environment that will facilitate their learning. You will be challenged to help students discover the conceptual building blocks which make up English. You are skilled at making others feel valued and included. You are a team worker who has an innate desire to help others develop. In addition to possessing the above traits, you have an eagerness to help refine the Spirit of English program in its validation stage before it is fully launched. The training you will receive as a Spirit of English teacher will deepen your understanding of the language and stretch your abilities as a teacher. Qualifications Educational Requirements Has taught with Spirit of Math for at least one year and has a degree from a recognized college or university is necessary. A Bachelor of Education or English is an asset, but not mandatory. Responsibilities The teacher fosters a collaborative and welcoming learning environment, develops the English skills of students and builds strong relationships with parents. The Teacher will be responsible for the following: Effectively managing the classroom to maintain a safe, orderly learning environment Adhering to the Spirit of English teaching methodology and administrative system Delivering lessons to students Grading students assignments, tests and exams Building and maintaining relationships with parents Addressing issues with students performance and behaviour Drafting report cards comments three times per year Managing assistant teachers as needed Maintaining an up-to-date and accurate records of grades and attendance Attending training sessions every one to two months Meeting with the Innovation Department weekly Providing valuable, insightful feedback on how to improve the curriculum Document and fix curriculum edits as needed Why Work With Us?
