Position Details Position: Freelance Interpreter (English/Tamil) Organization: MCIS Language Solutions Salary / Pay Range: CA$20.00/hr - CA$25.00/hr Job Type: Part-time, Casual, Freelance Location: Canada (flexible; assignments may vary by location) Responsibilities Interpretation: Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Tamil in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal situations. Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural awareness and faithfully convey meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances. Reading and Oral Translation: Read and orally translate written materials (e.g., forms, medical records, legal documents) as needed, delivering precise translations. Facilitating Access to Services: Help vulnerable populations navigate complex systems (healthcare, law enforcement, social services) to access essential services. Travel: Travel to assignment locations as required; access via car, public transportation, or other means. Flexibility is key. Remote Assignments: Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation assignments as applicable. Professionalism and Confidentiality: Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive contexts (healthcare, legal, etc.). Qualifications Fluency in English and Tamil (written and spoken) required. Reading Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret written documents and translate them orally with clarity. Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and commitment to service; able to build rapport across diverse cultural backgrounds. Transportation: Ability to travel to different locations as needed; reliable transportation. Legal Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Training And Support Training: MCIS provides a free online training module to prepare you for assignments; must be completed before starting work.
