Overview Senior Auto Underwriter, Middle Market - Calgary role at Zurich Canada. Hybrid work opportunity. Reporting to the Director, Middle Market Prairies, you will focus on broker relationships, underwriting mid-market commercial auto, and delivering customer service and competitive insurance solutions within Zurichs Middle Market strategy. What you will do Serve as an advocate of the Middle Market value proposition with focus on understanding customers risks and offering the best solution for their needs. Develop and nurture broker networks related to mid-market customers with focus on target industries to support the organizations strategies. Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework and within delegated authority levels for higher technical complexity and coordination. Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and maintain relationships, enabling a superior experience for external and internal stakeholders. May provide guidance to lower-level associates. Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for brokers and customers. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to meet the organizations appetite, balancing with sound underwriting judgement. Make broker/customer and on-site calls. Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account. Proactively engage in the target account process. Serve as key Zurich contact for assigned target accounts. Anticipate customer needs and monitor trends to recommend changes. Job Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area. AND Knowledge of lines of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines. Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business. Experience with Microsoft Office. Preferred: Bachelors Degree with 5 or more years experience in the commercial Auto underwriting area. Completion of or working towards CIP, Advanced CIP, FCIP or CRM. Soft skills Strong negotiation skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Pre-existing broker relationships are an advantage. Ability to prioritize and adapt in a changing environment. Experience working in a team environment. Motivated to achieve on strategy and objectives as an individual and as part of a team.
